I really enjoyed this area. Lots of water, creek crossings, waterfalls, rivers to play in.

I hate to give it a two star but the only good thing about this hike was Max Patch and Hot Springs that you can drive to. The trail was otherwise non eventful and had few running water sources. Another main reason for a two star is this area had some of the worst ever shelters! Old and Falling apart, floor sinking, mice and snake infested, could not pay me to sleep in shelters. There was only one shelter I might have considered staying in and it was dark and dank. The one after Hot springs is also horrible so be sure you bring your tent.

This area may not be top notch like Roan Mountain or Max Patch but it is good second. I did not expect from this section and found it to be very diverse and likeable. I would do this section again and again. Not just a green tunnel thru here but be prepared for lots of uphill hiking. You get a little of everything on this hike from balds, to a fire tower to a walk in the clouds while rock climbing and so much more.

With the Grayson Highlands on this section this is hands down a five star place to hike, bike, fish, hang out, camp or do just about anything. I intend to return to this area every year as it has so much to offer.

This is the place to see lot's of water, large waterfalls but few views. There are two very large waterfalls in this section both are a must see! Also don't miss the famous Kincora hostel at Dennis Cove. I stayed by the parking lot at Dennis Cove and there are Bears around, just saying.

My number one favorite section. Balds, views like no where else. Hump Mountain is awesome and the "Barn" shelter very cool.
