Wikitrail.org Privacy Policy

Wikitrail.org cares about protecting your privacy.

We will not disclose your name, email address, or any other personally identifiable information to any third parties unless required to by law.

Your reviews and contributions to wikitrail.org will be visible to anyone who visits the site. This is important for transparency. When you add a review or edit a trail, your name is associated with the review or the edit. If another user goes to look at the change history of the trail, then they will be able to see your change and also the fact that you were the user who made the edit.

Your profile information (username, icon, bio and website) also will be visible for anyone to see. If you do not want this information to be visible, then you should leave these fields empty. Your username is a required field, however, so this field will necessarily be publicly-visible. If you're worried that you're username could be personally-identifiable, then you should choose a different, more-anonymous username.

We do not currently send any emails to our users. In the future, we may deliver functionality via email. However, this will always be an opt-in method of communication. There may also be exceptional circumstances where contacting you via email is required.

We use cookies to store very small amounts of non-personally identifiable data on your computer to improve your experience. For casual browsing of the site, cookies are recommended but not required. Most browsers have options or extensions that allow you to block cookies for this or any other site if you so wish. If you are making edits to a trail, however, you will need to enable cookies. Cookies are needed in these circumstances because edits have a multi-page workflow and require the site to remember you between pages.

Our website uses Google Analytics to monitor site traffic. No personally-identifiable data is collected by google analytics.

If you have questions or comments about this policy and what it means, please don't hesitate to ask.
